Those who have met me in real life may know I’m bit of a nutter for denim. In fact, I’m wearing a denim shirt right now as I type this.

Creepiness aside, I wouldn’t exactly call it a fetish, but I do love the classic look denim has. Jackets, jeans, shirts, bow ties (yes) and bags - pretty much anything can be made out of denim and look pretty darn cool. These days, people are even wearing the denim shirt as a substitute for a dress shirt, donning it with tweed and knit ties (or atleast that’s how I’d wear it if I were to go for the option).

What I love about denim is the variety of shades, colours and styles. I remember the Asian craze over Evisu jeans about 5-10 years ago, when they were THE jeans to get. My brother had a denim jacket and a denim duffel (something I used to steal regularly), both indigo pieces. These days, denim can be seen utilised by a number of brands and has practically become a staple in the wardrobe.

In my opinion - everybody needs at least:

• Black skinny or slim-fitting jeans. These go with practically everything and  I love the fact that I can wear my Cheap Monday pair with almost every colour of the rainbow.
• A blue denim shirt - can be both utilised for both smart and casual occasions, and it’s pretty hard to get a bad one. 

Wear the denim shirt either buttoned to the top (with a collar tie  accessory, as I’ve done today with those who have seen my Instagram/Twitter), open a few buttons for a ‘less’ smart look, or completely open with a vest, to go for a very American-style I’m-on-a-horse look. Denim on denim isn’t a sin, just try to put either darker shades on the bottom, or break it up with something else. Brown shoes/boots with lighter denims is also a safe and solid look.

I’ll probably do a post about ‘dress-shirting’ with denim another time, but I wanted to get this one out there as I was inspired by AllSaints’ denim video to get a post out today. Love me some AllSaints’ denim :)
